We could not be prouder for this team! Greece won the 3rd place in its first ever participation at EURO Unity Cup, a wonderful tournament organized by UEFA and UNHCR to promote the message of refugees’ social inclusion – across Europe – and not only.
Our organization had the pleasure to collaborate with the National Football Association in assembling the first Greek squad consisting of refugees and migrants on a purpose to travel to Nyon, Switzerland and participate in a high – competitive European football tournament.
The squad had the honor to have as ambassador, the EURO 2004 champion and former international player, Dimitris Papadopoulos, the National Football Association representative, Elena Stathouli and as Head of the Squad, the Chairman at the Art and Action Network in Greece, Christos Lazaridis. The team was coached by our beloved, Kennedy Ehiozee.
Greece’s first participation in the 3rd edition of the EURO Unity Cup was filled by: Jerry (our captain), Arjin, Ramin, Linda, Delphine, Marie – Philomene, Camara, Souleymane, Lamine, Antoine, Bamba.
Our team finished 1st during the Group Stage Phase competing with very powerful opponents such as Belgium, Ukraine and Spain and played directly at the Same Finals against the Cup winners, Latvia, that won 4-1 against Finland, the team that conquered the trophy in 2023.
